Since 1892, the Sierra Club has been working to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself. We are the oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States. Sierra Club's first president was John Muir, America's most famous and influential naturalist and conservationist. One of the Club's first conservation victories came in 1905, when the California legislature agreed to return Yosemite Valley to federal management.
More recently, the Sierra Club has been active in efforts to save the Endangered Species Act and to get several states and the Environmental Protection Agency to impose pollution lmits in key watersheds.
